These end mills are contoured on the corner to provide fillet radii while cutting.

For instance..you can get 1/2" and 1" diameter cutters with corner radii ranging from .015" to .125"

These are ideal for machining steel that is going to be hardened and relieving stresses across the corners of thin sections. This reduces the possibility of cracking that might happen if the parts were milled with "square" corners.

Incidently....cutting inside corner fillets is a practice most lathe operators know about...or should...for the same reason.

Hope this helps?

HI,

Can you elabotate on the 'corner cutting end mills' please? As far as I was
aware, any endmill has to produce rounded inside corners simply because of
its own mass - is there something I don't know?

Also, I believe that the 'end cutting endmills' you are referring to are
generally known as 'slot drills'

will go all the way to the ceter of the mill. When you order the end mills,
the catalog will specify if they are center cutting.

with one having corner cutting radii, you won't need to make any software
changes. Just be aware tho' that ALL the inside corners would then have a
corner fillet after cutting.
