Re: EMC and stepper driver

Wally,

Good evening! The G201 is "turned into" a G210 by plugging in a small
pulse multiplier board (1.25" by 1.375") that goes by our internal
part number G901. Any improvements made to the G201 automatically
apply to the G210. The same goes for the G320/G340 since the same
multiplier board is used.

I personally have no real world info to offer other than what people
on this list may offer. I am a EE and spend all my time designing and
manufacturing these drives. I do not use them because I have nothing
to use them on.

If well timed step pulses are used, I would expect no differences in
the speed-torque curves. If "ragged" step pulses are used, I would
expect slightly better performance.

A clarification regarding higher voltage (160VDC). This will not
appear until the first quarter of next year. That requires a near
total re-design of the drive and a lengthy test period.

The standby current and interface polarity improvements result from
having to start the fourth production run of 1,000 G201 units.

I keep a "wish list" of suggestions from this list and other sources.
Those that meet the criteria of being inexpensive, small, and useful
are tested and then incorporated in the board layout between runs.
When stock declines to the point where a new run is required, the
board iteration is then ready to go.

At this point the changes will be:

1) Automatic current standby (33% of nominal) 1 second after last
step. Feature can be disabled via a jumper.

2) Interface polarity configured to +5VDC or GND at the factory. This
is to save the DISABLE input as a seperate terminal.

3) Board configured to take a 2 piece pluggable terminal block as an
option as well as the present fixed block terminal.

4) Socketed opto-isolator.
