Been running my systems that way from the day I installed them.
There are quite a number of things you can do to "customize" your
installation. My favorite is edit your /etc/fstab file so that you can mount
the floppy with just the command:
mount /mnt/floppy
instead of the command:
mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
Just change the file type in fstab from ext2 to msdos
