Most software wants a number of steps/encoder counts per user
unit (inch or mm) and doesn't really care if it is oddball. A number
of installations use oddball counts to compensate for leadscrew
error and such. ie, a system that is supposed to have 2500 counts/inch,
but actually, due to leadscrew error, the best accuracy is obtained
by setting the software to 2499 counts/inch.

So, most software should accept this encoder without trouble.
The index channel allows for more precise homing.
