The stepper jumping around may be your ramp up and down times, try
slowing them down. Also look at your max rate you may be missing
steps. Start out with a slow speed with a long ramp. Then try
faster speeds until you stall out. Back max speed off some then try
making your ramps faster. Do not forget to record your numbers for
each test. And leave plenty of safty margin.
