Terry, What about this post from Jon Elson.
"Yes, and this is pretty well backed up by the RS-274D standards
document, although the language in that thing is so convoluted, it is
hard to follow. They went WAY out of their way to never mention
anything recognizable as part of a machine tool."
Does this standard have the info you need.
