Galil uses the 2 letter approach as well. This is probably a good middle
ground between dumb-as-a-brick and RS-274 as it allows versatility. The
command set should be developed with CNC in mind though. RS-274 and Galil
Basic are not from the same gene pool. Thus the difficulty writing an
interface twix the two.

I can loan out a Galil programming manual if it would help. I might even be
able to locate sample command sets for similar boards.
