I have an Alexander/Deckel 3 dimensional pantograph diesinking machine (bigger motor and a lot beefier than an engraver). The manual says " the high speed ball bearing spindle should be filled with petroleum jelly at least once a month"..
Vaseline - yes, that surprised me too, but that's what the book says.
