Ballendo;

Watts in times efficiency is proportional to HP out. The new motor with
better magnets is more efficient at converting electrical energy to
mechanical energy. Some is still wasted, but not as much as with the older
motor. That is why the older motor runs hotter. Remember cooling fins?

When I said it takes about 1KW of electrical energy to get one HP of
mechanical energy, the 1000-746=254 watts that are missing went into heat.
No doubt you will agree that more efficient motors generate less heat.

Regardless of the efficiency, 746W will be converted into mechanical energy
for each HP delivered at the shaft. The efficiency determines how much
extra wattage must be supplied to the motor as wasted heat.
