A three phase NEMA standard contactor would work fine for this I think. I
have some left over from wiring magnetic switches and such. Some have extra
nc contact kits installed. The auxilliary latching contact can be used as in
any magnetic switch to protect against power bumps.
Might have to check the effects of big di/dt for the inductive load but no
big deal to snub it if needed.
The speed detector will be independent of the amps, computer, encoders or
watchdog. Should cover everything except collisions with work.
On another note I find that my potential clunker pc is a k6
machine. Uh oh. The redhat site lists some compatibility
problems with some. I understand they tend to lock up. We'll see. Plenty
more out there if it does.
