Stepper motors and increased Amps

Ok, here is my stupid question for the day:
If I have steppers that are rated at 5.1 volts, 1 Amp can I safely
increase the current to 1.5 Amps without blowing the motor? How much
over the rated current can a stepper motor safely handle?
Ok, I know, that's two questions not one.
