Hans,
I have heard rumors about "portable" water jets, but until then... Plasma.
I built one that will do like 11" by 23" for almost nothin. The envelope is basically the limit of two belts spliced together. It
uses belts and linear bearings.
I am busy with my milling, and I moved to a very small shop and have to do all plasma outside so I dont' use it any more.
It used 2, 34 step motors (one later died). I rigged up an automatic trigger with a solenoid and put it on the plasma handle
with zip ties. It worked pretty good. I made a trailer, trailer hitch and a bunch of stuff before the motor went out. It was
direct drive, really fast (200 ipm) with about a .015" resolution
I would probably sell it for almost nothin if anyone was interesed. (just the mechanism and the motors, not the plasma or the
control)
