a dedicated PC for your machine controller anyway and it will give you the
chance you've always wanted to join the growing number of people with a LAN
in their home! I have my internet connection dialed up through Linux and am
using a feature called masquerading to let the other two Win95 workstations
on the network use the net simultaneously. My kids (and wife!) get on and
play Java based interactive games (checkers, etc.) and chat, all through one
lousy 33.6 modem. You would think it would be horribly slow, but it's not bad
at all. If you go this route skip the coax and 10MB/s Ethernet hardware and
spring for 100MB/s cards and a matching hub. It's only a little more money
and the performance is worth it. Pretty soon you'll be thinking, "Maybe we
really DO need a PC in the bathroom...".
