My suggestion on the G320 is to select your encoders to keep the count
(slots X 4) in the 2000 to 5000 range per inch. That makes your steps .0005"
to .0002" and keeps the requirement on the computer in a realistic range. So
if you have a 200 slot encoder and 2:1 reduction on a 5 tpi screw you will
be at 2000 steps per inch and a 500 slot with the same setup will put you at
the 5000. If you go to a 1000 slot encoder you get 10,000 steps per inch
which can start taxing the computer at higher feed rates and gives you a
step distance (.0001") that most equipment will not produce anyway.
