There's only one way to get this type of belt to join successfully. You need
to set a knife vertically in a vise and heat the blade to just about red hot
with a blowlamp. As it starts to cool down, you press one end of the poly
belt against each side of the blade and slide both pieces off towards you so
that they line up as they leave the blade. Keep pressing them together until
they cool down and you should have a good joint. I use these belts a lot for
my watchmaking equipment and I usually finish them off by smoothing down the
little lump that forms where the belt ends join by running a hot knife blade
over the joint.
