Ian,
This is similar to the anti-backlash nuts used in the import
mill/drills. They use a long nut, with a slit near one end (making
two separate "thread bearing" areas). The slit does not go all the
way through, so there is no alignment problem. Anyway, there is a
backlash adjustment screw on one side of the 'main' leadscrew which
is positioned to "squeeze" the slit closed. Like your approach, this
will eliminate backlash. For awhile. THEN,...
You will have to re-adjust the screw(s). On some machines this is not
a problem (sherline, manual mills), but on a cnc it becomes (rather
quickly, IMO) a chore...
This is why some form of 'continuing' compensation is advisable, IMO.

department with the moglice/philly resins nuts(on a sherline; and was
gonna do a griz minimill). Ron, How are they holding up under use?
