You may have to get a stronger tool, either M-42 or some other Cobalt HSS,
or go all the way to carbide. Yes, I know, a carbide tool will be REALLY
expensive.
You might try to analyze the failed tool to determine why it broke. Look at the
cutting edge under bright light, with a strong magnifier. See if the edge is worn
or chipped. I'm guessing the cutter wore out first, then broke due to increased
cutting forces.
