Another issue I've been thinking about is the connectors for the motor
and encoder cables. Most traditional controls use Amphenol MS series
circular metal shell connectors which are rather expensive ($20-$30 each
for a plug or receptacle). Some newer machines like Haas and Fadal have
their own rectangular plastic or die cast shell connectors with the
company name molded in. I'll have to dig around and see what's available
now.
