The AMP circular plastic connector is a real good way to go. I used 37-pin
ones, which is maybe overkill, but I wanted everything for an axis on one
connector - motor, tach, encoder, limit switches, etc. They are much cheaper
than almost any other type, can carry a good amount of current, have different
insertable pins for different gauges of wire, and are quite robust. It is very
handy when something goes wrong, and you can swap axis drives in seconds
to troubleshoot. I got mine from Digi-Key.
