HI,

I have been working on the teach thing for about 3 years, but only in 3
axis. I believe you would need a six axis machine to do what you are
thinking about for the mig weldor teach program. It would involve what I
believe is referred to as the "backwards computations" or something like
that. It uses complex trig functions to allow the "elbows" of the welding
arms to move appropriately, while keeping the welding tip stationary. This
is necessary if you are concerned about the angle of the welding tip to the
work, when working on other than flat surfaces. I have a teach program
which works in three axi, but it is not machine independent. It is not
ready for general distribution, but I would be willing to talk a little
about it off line.
