Dan is offering 24 V 10 amp transformers in his power supply kits. The past
talk on microwave transformers revolved around cutting off the high voltage
winding and rewinding to get the voltage you want. Total uneducated guess is
that a rewound microwave transformer built to give 48 V out would be good
for 10 - 15 amps. If you just do some cruising of the neighborhoods on trash
night you can find plenty of dead microwaves. It is most common for the
controls or the diodes to fail, not the transformer. I have also been told
they are pretty easy to get if you talk to an appliance repair shop. People
just dump them when they hear what it costs to fix compared to replace.

I am going to make my 72 V power supply from a pair of 48 V 10 amp
transformers I have on hand and parallel them for the amperage. Anyone have
an opinion on whether it is better to parallel them before the rectifier or
to use separate rectifiers and parallel the DC?
