Bill
Good Post, I have retrofitted lots of sherlines and I have been using
the Duralube engine additive on the aluminum ways. I have one machine
that has been run really fast (up to 150 ipm) on real large files for
extended periods of time. This machine was run so hard that the
customer actualy wore the threads completely out of the z axis
nut....you would have though he would have caught it before it got
that bad! The x and y axis were constantly well lubricated with the
duralube and I recently checked the machine out after the x and y
nuts and backlash adjsters were replaced and its in remarkably good
condition for a machine run in this manner. You can see an early
example of the types of parts being machined on this sherline at:

On my large machines I use Mobil Vactra #2 way oil.
