Re: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Lubrication for CNC

Hello everybody,
on all machines I always used Esso Febis 68 for the ways and for soluble oil Esso Kutwell 40
Both with excellent results.
But lately both changed in appearance. They are now of clear colour and smell different.
And at least at one client I saw that the soluble oil doesn't last as long as I was accustomed to.
Do we have an ESSO expert who might explain it in the group?

On most machines I rebuild I add a layer of felt between the wiper and the slide.
I have seen it on many very old machines and really works. (Best ways on a mill from 1910.)
The wiper takes of the chips when it is in good shape, but wipes of the oil too!
On one hand the felt absorbs surplus oil and later spreads it again on the way.
On the other hand it absorbs small particles that could pass the wiper, so that they
do not get in between way and slide.
The felt has to get washed in gasoline every 6 month to get out these small particles.

An other modification I do frequently is that I substitute the grease lubrication against
oil lubrication. I prefer the central oiler with distribution but sometimes an old style
drip tank or wick tank is ok.
The trouble with grease is that particles like dust and chips get caught in it and then
gets into the ways and eat them up.
In our Centralamerican shops the dust is almost everywhere. At least the oil doesn't catch
as much dust as grease.
On the ways normally I engrave zickzak oil grooves because a too deep scraping is worse than none.
I hope this gives some ideas
Good Luck to everybody.
