Bill,
On the Sherline Mill and Lathe, I use Mobil One grease with a drop of light machine
oil added to each slide and lead screw. The oil cuts down on the grease drag.
Considering the machine's hard anodized ways, the thought of enhancing them is
prohibited. Once they wear to the point of bare aluminum/aluminum, it's replacement time.
On the steel/alum slides, same lube. Some flaking to the steel may help retain
oil but, they are so small I would not bother.
I have split and closed the saddle nuts to give minimum lash and will soon fit an
anti-lash nut to the lathe crosslide.
