Perhaps a slight 'problem' I have with the video might give a clue - I am
also using an ATI RAGE II + DVD card and, when the linux screen saver comes
on, I get a 'column' of banding 'interference' on the screen. The column is
about 1cm wide and half the height of the screen and , whilst it always sits
on the bottom of the screen, it sometimes moves sideways. Also, I have
started using x2vnc on this machine as I have it and a windows computer on
the same desk. This program allows me to work both computers with the same
mouse and keyboard, so saving in desk space. However, when the mouse pointer
is on the windows box, I get the column of 'interference' on the linux
screen and this tracks left and right in synchrony with the mouse pointer on
the other screen. It doesn't cause any other problems apart from the
annoyance of a messy screen but I wonder if it is an indicator of, perhaps,
a 'memory leak' or something similar?
