You can also cut a pattern out of hardwood and tap the sheet
metal down around the edges with a hammer. Then use a strip of
plumbers solder or maybe even a lead hammer to spank it down
flat.

This is covered in the series of articles in the Village Press
magazine and reprinted in the "Projects Seven" book.(about 25.00)
This series has about 50-60 pages on CNC retrofits from mill drills
to full size Bridgeports and clones.
