High velocity air IS a coolant! In fact, if pressurized air is blown thru a
venturi the airs temperature will lower as it's volume expands.
Your conclusions are acurate....IF there isn't much heat buildup no coolant
is required. Since there will normally be heat buildup on prolonged
machining jobs, coolant (air, water, kereosene or whatever suits you) will
be required. Gets us blind people with experience really are capable of
leading the blind.
