I have 5 plus years in cutting aluminum at the sign co. business, I work
for.... Use 50/52 type aluminum, carbide spiral up (two fluted for smooth
clean cuts, .250" in diameter, if you need to use a small milling bit, lets
say as small as .125", use a non-carbide single flute bit, by all means, use
either a coolant type oil or what I use, a water base coolant. Depending on
feed rate, use 16,000~19,000 rpm, climb direction is a must. I cut .125"
50/52 aluminum about anywhere from 24~28 ipm. Coolant also helps keep your
bit cooler and last much longer.......
