Hi Tom:
I would avoid Autocad unless you have a really strong reason for using
it. (like a major customer who insists on it)
There are far easier programs out there that will do an excellent job for
you and many of them are Shareware or Freeware.
My favourite (the one I got into first) was called DrafixCAD.
For 2 dimensional drawing, it was much easier to learn than Autocad, and
just as powerful.
If you are contemplating a lot of design work, I would bite the bitter pill
and cough up the dough for Solidworks.
It will be pricey (around $5000.00 US) but it's well worth it if you expect
to spend more than 25% of your shop time on design.
