If I were of the mind to try a usefull experiment in the business of
DRO Scales, I think I'd try an optical mouse mounted to travel with the
carriage. I have often wondered just how accurate it would be. They are
cheap, and I've been using one for some time, they seem very accurate. I get
the strange feeling when using it, that the driver is using some sort of
Bresenham counter system, and the true resolution is some riduculously high
value before being stepped down by the driver.
