No, because the mouse measures motion with respect to distance. An inch is
still an inch, whether measured on a large or small ball surface.

How about changing the mounting of the mouse pc board so you could use a
wheel of larger diameter than the mouse ball? Double the diameter should
give you double the resolution - no?
