Well, I couldn't help myself, I had to check. The optical mouse IC specs are
on the below link. It is a 400cpi quadrature encoder which can be used at 12
inches per second. Maybe too low a resolution? Mayeb there's a way to make a
dual sliding assembly to double its true resolution. Sounds like a real
cheap way to make a pretty good hobby DRO.
