Actually, I'm more interested in levelling the ways for the purposes of
scraping them in. I have a precision level with grads of .0005 in/ft but it
is 12 inches long. Furthermore, the ways are 50 inches apart and there is
structure between them. Stacking 2-4-6 blocks, a straight edge and the
level will work but it seems the laser might be easier - less stuff to fall
on the floor.
