Alan,
Exactly right. Many motors are bi-directional transducers; they
convert electrical energy to mechanical energy and visa versa. As
stated before a step motor produces constant mechanical power; as
speed doubles, torque falls by half. This relationship holds in
reverse as well, as it outputs constant electrical power as a
generator.
At zero speed there is no information available about rotor position
so it is intrinsically useless as a repeater.
