Ummm, sort of. The drives in question were servo drives, so positioning
is by an encoder.

If you connect two stepper motors together, one will move when the
other one is turned. But, you really can't expect them to stay in sync,
beacuse very slow motion of one will not cause the other to move.
This is BETTER than selsyns, in a way, as no external power is needed,
but isn't really useful for remote position transmitting. DC servo
motors with permanent magnets will do this, too.
