Well, I got 2 complete axis drive systems for $300, plus 2 air bearing
drill spindle motors, a 5' granite beam and a bunch of other stuff.
Rebuilt spindle motors sell for $6000. The ballscrews are high-precision
grade ground screws withantibacklash nuts. They are accurate to
about .0002" over 36". I suspect they cost $5000 each.

The rest of the fine servo motors I got out of salvaged equipment,
out of dumpsters, etc. and so I paid nothing for them! People throw
them away because they don't know how they work, but they pull
the steppers out of junked floppy drives and sell them at the flea
markets.

I wasn't talking about high-class servo motors, either. The ironless
rotor, ceramic shaft beasts are much better, but the average motors out
of old computer tape drives are quite good, and there must be 250,000
floating around in the US, alone.
