None,... lets see 4 wires for a stepper system min. 6 for a servo
system. Tinkering ?? Well the only problem I had was encoder noise on
a 24 ft run,.. 99 cent IC fixed that. Of course the newer Geckos take
care of that. Cost?? drives are about the same. Motors ,.. close. In
fact I'm finding better deals on surplus servo motors vers. stepper
motors.
