If I can butt into the conversation -

No CNC system, regardless of how "good" or expensive it is, makes a part
exactly like the drawing calls out. It only comes close. Sometimes so close
that you can't measure a difference, but errors are still there. You are
correct in believing that the computer can direct the X motor to act only
AFTER it detects that the Y Motor is not at its correct location, and, by
that time, the "damage" is already done. The issue is how small a deviation
will be detected whether or not that deviation is within the tolerance
requirements of your parts. It matters not whether or not you are dealing
with servos or steppers. Perfection is unobtainable. Think tolerances and
"how close is good enough?"
