Jon,

Have the shop wired for 3ph out of a rotary converter. This has run 1
mill and two lathes for some time. Shortly after getting the CNC, a step
pulley head, I added the inverter for speed changes. Not sure if mine
will take single phase input, but I have 3ph available at a junction box
where I'd have to run another circuit to bring single phase out to the
mill. I've heard some rotary converters (commercial) that make an
incredible amount of noise. If I'm at the opposite corner of my shop, I
can only hear mine if I really listen for it. Turn on any machine or the
radio, and I never notice it. Only time it mildly annoys me is when I'm
at my desk talking on the phone, it's about 5' away. The Off button can
be reached with a 4' stick I keep handy...
