I'd suggest that you take two pictures.

One at full resolution for viewing at home, where bandwidth is not a
problem, and one at the minimum resolution that shows what you wish to show
for display here and on the other electronic forums. 640x480 is a good size
to start with for display here, and then run a program such as PaintShop Pro
to crop it to show only those details that are necessary to reduce the
download sizes.
