The main reason to convert a 3 in 1 to CNC is that is what you have the room
for. I have a Shoptask and feel it was a good investment. It fit the space I
had available and has the capacity for the projects I planned for it. No, it
is not a Bridgeport, but I can assure you it will machine circles around
your Sherline ( I know I had both a Sherline lathe and Mill and while I
think they are great little machines they limited me far more than the
Shoptask ever has ).

Switching from lathe to mill mode takes no more time than what I have to do
upon booting up the Bridgeport CNC I have and there is an economy in only
needing 1 computer, 3 drives, 3 motors, and 1 power supply for both a CNC
lathe and mill. No I can't run them both at the same time, but I wouldn't
want to either.

There are lots of CNC 3 in 1 machines around doing good solid work. Just
like picking any machine you have to analyze your need, your wallet, your
experience, and your available space. I have some info on my CNC Shoptask on
my website.
