Hello all! my 2 cents (any one know the 3 digit number for the 'cent'
symbol... like alt 248 is °?)
anyhow, we use the solidworks & mastercam solution here. I would have to
second that the interface is really the worst i have ever used (for
mastercam) solidworks is ok, but has some bugs, like that it won't keep
subassemblies sorted out if you load multiple assemblies with the same part
names but different files (in other directories)... it will 'link' them. I
personally like Pro-E alot better, its more stable. Mastercam is WAY too
cryptic, and the interface is just dreadfull (think i mentioned that) I
would not recomend it to anyone.
(my 2 cents)

I'm learning MasterCAM 8.1 at school. That program leave a lot to be
desired!
The training info manuals and tutorials leave out way too much information
required once you get past the "lessons" which merely tell you to fill out
the various dialog boxes as shown without telling you what some of them are
for.
Unfortunately too, the instructor isn't very well versed in MasterCAM
either and the dealer is generally pretty hard to get hold of for answers.
Unfortunately, I don't have the funds to buy MasterCAM (over $4000 I
understand) and Solidworks (also ove $4000). Plus I'd have to upgrade my
computer (cheap at $80 for the necessary memory) just to let Solidworks
operate.
About the only reason I could justify Solidworks would be ease of generating
assemblies which can be animated. From there I could generate 2D drawings
which could possibly be plugged into a simple (and cheaper) program for
generating the required code. I could even generate the code by hand if
necessary.
