Generally, the - terminal is opposite the +, and the other AC is
opposite the one marked AC.

L1? L1 sounds like primary (input). But, the two wires (28 VAC)
from the transformer should go to the rectifier AC terminals, and the
capacitor (and DC output terminals) should go to the + and -.
