Hi Chris,
The problem with using a higher value cap is that your inrush current will
be that much higher and you may well damage the rectifier diodes and
transformer, you only need to resonate the cap and other components to both
smooth the DC and conduct noise from the supply rails.

that is somewhat larger (or for that matter, smaller) than what is
being called for? For instance my calculations call for an 8,000uf cap,
but I have on hand a 22,000uf... is there anything wrong with using
that?
