Re: Machinig Ball Screws

When I put ballscrews in my machine, I had a hard time setting it
up. In the end I made a "spring" out of .125 music wire wound on a
lathe with about 5 turns. This fit the ballscrew right where the
balls in the nut would ride. I then colleted the screw and spring in
a Harding chucker and turned the ends to .375 and also put in a small
center to check them between centers. Accuracy was within .001. The
screw I used is case hardened so you end up with a "hard soft" cut.
Your idea of grinding them to finish size sould work great. Hope this
