Hi,
I just wanted say thanks to everyone that responded. A gentleman on the
rec.crafts.metalworking news group, has a Sheldon manual very close to my
lathe. He was kind enough to scan the pages I need and email them to me, Now
that's a good egg !!! He also sent me the contact info for National Acme
that currently owns the Sheldon name and has the manuals.
For those who are interested, the spindle is a single unit and pushes
straight out like most lathes. The rear bearing is fitted very very tight.
The backing bull gear should just slide off as well. I guess, like all of
us, things tend stick a little with age (its better than falling off).
I took a trip to Grainger and picked up one of the link belts. They do work
well. Its the first time I used them, they are quite, I'm very impressed.
Thanks for the recommendations. I called fenner, they absolutely do not
recommend EVER running the link belts in reverse direction, but they hear of
people doing it all the time without any problems. I think they will work
just fine for occasional use under light loads. It was a little expensive
$25. Still not a bad price for the convenience.
again, thanks all,
gary
