I agree totally with Freds viewpoint. Everything else just ends up argumental. It does not matter to me if the Z can execute arc commands or not, as long as it gets the part cut. That just means that the "Post" method needs to be able to send out line segments, and the Control needs to be able to process them.
It may however matter to someone with a control that can not run short line segment commands in a some sort of continuous contouring fashion.
So, rule number one: If it doesn't offer continuous contouring,,, Don't buy it.
Going back to what the original poster was asking for......... Well, if he knows Corel Draw and nothing else at this time, He could cheaply get his "feet wet" with a .bmp to code converter like the one offered in Master5.

That is the basis of stepping or servo control. An arc is always cut as some minimal resolution, but still a digital representation. If you take any 3D arc and replace it with a series of short linear moves, at some point the actual cutting that takes place is identical between the two methods. That is why I contend that 3D is 3D. If a machine can cut simultaneous 3 axis linear moves, the addition of 3D arcs does not any further enhance the controller's capabilities.
