Just got an HP refurbished computer and a new Epson 777i printer.
Windoz ME. Plugged the printer into the USB, turned it on, turned
the computer on. It autodetected. Per epson instructions, canceled
that and ran the setup program on the epson CD. Worked fine.
Had other problems and HP sent me a replacement computer. Set it up
last night.
This time no autodetect and epson setup couldn't talk to it at all.
Went into settings>control panel>system>device manager tab. There
was a yellow ! icon in the list with something about the USB.
Gets a little fuzzy here, but I was able to click on that and tell it
to search for the drivers. I selected the ones on the CD vs the ones
that came w/ windows and everything works now.
***Now that I've read the previous message, I bet it was the BIOS.***
I did NOT want to call tech support again. Took hours (on a toll
call) to convince them that reinstalling the drivers a dozen times
would not fix a modem that puts a dead short on the phone line when
you plug it in, even with the computer powered off!
Sorry for the rambling...
