Interestingly, this is exactly the same issue that I am dealing with in my
CNC converstion. Instead of rotating a cutting knife, I will need to be
rotating a fixed cutter for engine turning and "hand" engraving (I guess I
should call it single point engraving, or something). Here are the pics of
the setup. I plan to use EMC, which I'm told can be adapted to the task,
although not at the present time.

Since engine turning and engraving are making shaper-like cuts, I need the
rigidity of the BP to prevent chatter. It would be a little bit of overkill
to cut cardboard. I was also told that dancad wouldn't work for servo
motors. I didn't want to use steppers, lest they cause jerkiness in the
cuts.

Here are some pics of my 4th axis setup to rotate the cutter (with the
spindle disengaged from the main motor).
