your sure its 12tpi ?
J&L lists 1/2-13LH replacement grinding spindle nuts
http://www.jlindustrial.com
run a search for "grinding wheel nut"
does the nut on the other side take an american wrench ?
if it does then it aint Whitworth
but the spindle would have to be pretty badly buggered up
to be a full pitch off with that corse of a thread
